Pension assets fell in the main government sectors in September

The National Pension System (NPS) is India's main retirement savings scheme. The Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) oversees it. Assets under management are the money the scheme invests for its members. In September 2026 they fell from the previous month in three sectors, measured in crore rupees (Rs crore):

  • Central government: Rs 466,057 crore, down from 471,235.
  • State governments: 884,165, down from 897,710.
  • Atal Pension Yojana (APY), a government-backed pension scheme: 56,480, down from 57,078.

NPS Vatsalya is the NPS scheme for minors. It had 515,184 subscribers in September 2026. That compares with 452,917 in August and 243,003 in May.

In the central government sector, 11,105 people made their first contribution in September. Of these, 9,448 were men and 1,657 were women.

India's daily electricity demand eased in early November

Grid India runs the national power grid. It reported energy met, meaning the electricity demand that was actually supplied, of 4,807.66 million units (MU) on 5 November. That was down from about 5,000 MU on 22–24 October and 5,226 MU on 17 October. Peak demand was 225,129 megawatts (MW), compared with 242,591 MW on 17 October. Coal plants generated 3,806 MU. The energy shortage was small, at 1.13 MU. This drop matches the usual easing in demand after the monsoon and the festival season.

About FactIQ and these updates

  • What FactIQ is. FactIQ is a database of official statistics from government agencies, central banks and international organisations in the US, China, India, Europe and elsewhere. AI assistants such as Claude and ChatGPT connect to it to look up the exact figures and cite the agency that published them. It also holds what companies report in their filings and say on their earnings calls.
  • How an update is made. When Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation India publishes new figures, FactIQ loads them and an AI model writes a short summary of what changed. Before it is published, code checks that every number in the summary matches FactIQ's record of the release, and a second review checks that nothing is overstated. Values that look like errors in the source data are left out.
  • Where the numbers come from. Each key figure links to the full series, with its source, units and history.
