Total credit to the non-financial sector, quarterly (BIS)

Total credit to the non-financial sector compiled by the Bank for International Settlements (BIS dataflow WS_TC): the stock of loans and debt securities owed by households, non-financial corporations, the private non-financial sector, general government and the whole non-financial sector, for 44 economies and four aggregates (all reporting economies, advanced economies, emerging market economies, G20), quarterly with history from as early as 1940. Each value is the end-of-quarter figure, stored under the quarter's first day (2026-Q1 is 2026-01-01). Each series is one combination of borrowing sector, lending sector (all sectors, or domestic banks for the private non-financial sector), valuation (market or nominal value), unit (domestic currency in billions, US dollars in billions, percent of GDP, or percent of GDP at PPP exchange rates for the aggregates) and adjustment (adjusted for breaks, or unadjusted). Use the percent-of-GDP series to compare debt burdens such as corporate debt to GDP or household debt to GDP across countries; the credit-to-GDP gap is not included. Values are exactly as the BIS publishes them. Series ids are bis_tc_q_<ref_area>_<borrowing sector>_<lending sector>_<valuation>_<unit type>_<adjustment>, for example bis_tc_q_kr_n_a_m_770_a (Korea, credit to non-financial corporations from all sectors, market value, percent of GDP, adjusted for breaks). Dimensions: ref_area, borrowing_sector, lending_sector, valuation, unit_type (XDC, USD, 770 percent of GDP, 799 percent of GDP at PPP exchange rates), adjustment, freq.

In SQL, this dataset is the rows of bis.series with dataset_code = 'bis_tc'.
