Several companies said they are returning cash to shareholders
- Columbia Banking System, in its third-quarter 2026 filing, said its board authorized a new $1.2 billion share repurchase program. The company cited confidence in its strategy and its excess capital generation outlook. It said it returned over $1 billion to shareholders through dividends and share repurchases over the past year. It also said it completed its existing buyback authorization.
- Carpenter Technology, reporting for the first quarter of fiscal year 2027, said it is returning cash to shareholders through dividends and a $1.0 billion share repurchase program.
- SS&C Technologies said it returned $225.3 million to shareholders in the third quarter of 2026 through share repurchases and dividends. It said it raised its annual common stock dividend to $1.20, an 11.1 percent increase. It also said it paid down $130.0 million of debt.
Tariffs affected results in opposite directions
- Deckers Outdoor, reporting for the second quarter of fiscal year 2027, said it recognized $46.0 million in tariff net refunds under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA). It said the refunds benefited gross and operating margins by approximately 310 basis points. A basis point is one hundredth of a percentage point. It said the refunds added approximately $0.28 to diluted earnings per share after tax.
- Autoliv said tariffs negatively affected its third-quarter 2026 profitability. It said customer compensation covered more than 80% of tariff costs. This left a net negative impact of around $6 million. Autoliv also said raw material price changes reduced profitability by around $42 million on a gross basis. It expects to mitigate a majority of that headwind.
Other companies reported mixed cost and demand conditions
- Ryder System said its free cash flow increased to $992 million from $496 million in 2025.
- NVR said higher lot costs, pricing pressure and approximately $24.8 million in contract land deposit impairments reduced its gross profit margin.
- Packaging Corporation of America said its third-quarter 2026 earnings increased by $.31 per share year over year. It expects significantly higher maintenance outage expenses in the fourth quarter.
- Kinsale Capital attributed lower gross written premiums to heightened property-market competition.

About FactIQ and these updates
- What FactIQ is. FactIQ is a database of official statistics from government agencies, central banks and international organisations in the US, China, India, Europe and elsewhere. AI assistants such as Claude and ChatGPT connect to it to look up the exact figures and cite the agency that published them. It also holds what companies report in their filings and say on their earnings calls.
- How an update is made. FactIQ reads each new earnings call or filing and stores the statements with numbers, each with the exact quote it came from. An AI model then writes a short summary of those statements. Before it is published, code checks that every number in the summary matches a stored statement, and a second review checks that nothing is overstated or presented as fact when the company only expects it.
- What this is not. The figures are what each company said or filed. FactIQ does not rate companies or recommend shares.
