Four banks said net interest income increased in the third quarter of 2026
Net interest income is what a bank earns on loans and investments minus what it pays on deposits and borrowings. Each figure below comes from the company's Form 8-K, the filing a US company makes to report a material event.- M&T Bank said its taxable-equivalent net interest income increased $32 million, or 2%, year over year. It cited lower deposit rates and growth in loans and investment securities, partly offset by lower loan yields.
- Regions Financial said Regions Bank's net interest income increased 2 percent. It cited asset turnover, loan growth, higher hedging income and an additional quarter day, among other factors.
- Citizens Financial Group reported net interest income increases of 2.7% and 13%. It attributed them to a higher net interest margin (NIM), the gap between what a bank earns on its assets and pays for its funding, and to growth in interest-earning assets.
- Wintrust Financial attributed its third-quarter increase to $2.1 billion of growth in average earning assets. It reported a third-quarter NIM of 3.51%, which it said was in line with expectations.
First Horizon said its margin decreased as deposit costs rose
First Horizon said its net interest income increased primarily because its average loan yield rose 6 basis points to 5.73%. It said its NIM decreased as interest-bearing deposit costs rose 12 basis points to 2.45%. First Horizon also said it entered into an agreement to sell approximately $4.5 billion of select lower-yielding consumer mortgages.Other companies pointed to prices, costs and shipments
- Alcoa said its adjusted EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) excluding special items was $789 million. It said this decreased $112 million sequentially as lower aluminum prices and shipments more than offset improved production costs and higher alumina prices.
- Crown Holdings said global beverage can shipments increased by more than 6% in the quarter. It said its third-quarter segment income declined as input cost inflation offset that contribution.
- J.B. Hunt Transport Services said its revenue per load increased 29% year over year.
- W.R. Berkley said it returned $728.6 million to shareholders year-to-date, including $435.1 million of share repurchases.

About FactIQ and these updates
- What FactIQ is. FactIQ is a database of official statistics from government agencies, central banks and international organisations in the US, China, India, Europe and elsewhere. AI assistants such as Claude and ChatGPT connect to it to look up the exact figures and cite the agency that published them. It also holds what companies report in their filings and say on their earnings calls.
- How an update is made. FactIQ reads each new earnings call or filing and stores the statements with numbers, each with the exact quote it came from. An AI model then writes a short summary of those statements. Before it is published, code checks that every number in the summary matches a stored statement, and a second review checks that nothing is overstated or presented as fact when the company only expects it.
- What this is not. The figures are what each company said or filed. FactIQ does not rate companies or recommend shares.
